About the standard

ISO 21502:2020 is the international guidance standard for project management, replacing ISO 21500:2012. It describes effective, high-level practices that project managers and project-based organizations can apply to deliver projects successfully — covering everything from defining objectives and scope to stakeholder engagement and risk treatment. The guidance applies to any type of project or organization and is relevant not only to project managers but also to sponsors, boards, auditors, and standards bodies.

Levels available

  • Foundation — For those who want to learn the fundamentals of ISO 21502 and the core concepts and practices of project management.
  • Lead Project Manager — For practitioners who want to master ISO 21502's guidelines and lead projects from initiation through closure, applying best-practice project management across the full project life cycle.

Who should attend

Aspiring and practicing project managers, project sponsors and board members, auditors, and anyone responsible for planning, running, or overseeing projects — across sectors such as construction, IT, manufacturing, government, and consulting — should attend.

Learning objectives

  • Understand ISO 21502's four main clauses: project management concepts, prerequisites, integrated practices, and project-level management practices.
  • Learn to initiate, plan, implement, control, and close projects against defined objectives, scope, and resources.
  • Gain the competence to manage stakeholders and communicate effectively with teams, suppliers, and customers.
  • Develop skills to assess and treat project risks and manage change within projects.
  • Build the ability to apply lessons learned to continually improve project outcomes.

Why attend

A certification in ISO 21502 signals peer-recognized competence in modern project management practice, positioning you for roles across industries as demand for skilled project managers grows with remote and project-based work. For organizations, applying ISO 21502 improves resource use, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making, leading to more predictable, better-managed projects.
