About the standard

ISO/IEC 38500 provides principles, definitions, and a model to help governing bodies understand and oversee the use of Information Technology (IT) within their organization. It applies regardless of how heavily an organization relies on IT, covering the management practices and decisions tied to current and future IT use. The standard's purpose is to promote effective, efficient, and acceptable IT use by informing and guiding governing bodies and giving them a shared IT governance vocabulary.
